That’s it. That’s my message. To police departments everywhere, and to those who wish we would find better ways to protest all of the ways that this country tries to harm us and take away our voice. Especially those who know me, claim to be an ally, or say that they love me.
Just stop! Stop with the ever-present silence, the misdirection, the support for ‘strengthening voting laws’, the ‘be patient’, the ‘it’s getting better’… all of it.
Your silence only shows me your societal consent. Your misdirection (“cops shoot white people too”) only shows your indifference and lack of empathy. Your calls to be patient only shows me your unwillingness to change NOW. Your ridiculous support of newly-enacted right-wing voting laws only shows me that you too want to silence the Black votes that lead to change.
And, most of all, your messages of “it’s getting better” only shows how delusional and blind you are to the deep-seated nature of racism in America and in its’ citizenry.
So. Just. Stop.
