{"id":122,"date":"2011-04-16T14:27:52","date_gmt":"2011-04-16T22:27:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.kevware.com.php5-10.dfw1-1.websitetestlink.com\/blog\/wordpress\/?p=122"},"modified":"2011-08-14T18:02:34","modified_gmt":"2011-08-15T02:02:34","slug":"my-viewsonic-g-tablet-the-review","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.kevware.com\/geek\/my-viewsonic-g-tablet-the-review\/","title":{"rendered":"My Viewsonic G Tablet &#8211; the review"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kevware.com.php5-10.dfw1-1.websitetestlink.com\/blog\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/VS401-i.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-43 alignleft\" title=\"Viewsonic G Tablet 10.1&quot; Multi-touch Android Tablet\" src=\"https:\/\/www.kevware.com\/geek\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/VS401-i.jpg\" alt=\"Viewsonic G Tablet 10.1&quot; Multi-touch Android Tablet\" width=\"360\" height=\"360\" style=\"padding: 0 20px 20px 0\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.kevware.com\/geek\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/VS401-i.jpg 360w, https:\/\/www.kevware.com\/geek\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/VS401-i-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.kevware.com\/geek\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/VS401-i-300x300.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 360px) 100vw, 360px\" \/><\/a>I have had my tablet for about two weeks or so with sufficient time to play around with it. \u00a0So it&#8217;s about time that I finally posted my impressions of this Android tablet.<\/p>\n<p>My first general disclaimer is that I haven&#8217;t spent much time at all with a G Tablet using the stock Android OS it comes with. \u00a0Why? \u00a0Because it sucks beans. \u00a0I had heard beforehand how bad it was and everyone was right. \u00a0It is clunky, elements take up way too much room on the screen, and getting to your various screens was awkward. \u00a0The G Tablet app store was also pretty awful, with virtually a fraction of the available offerings we have come to expect from the Android Market. \u00a0At this point in the development of Android OS&#8217;s we have come to expect (at bare\u00a0minimum) the same from a tablet that we have on our phones without the actual phone part. \u00a0And the stock OS didn&#8217;t even come close.<\/p>\n<p>But overall the tablet is a nice size and not nearly as heavy as the Motorola Xoom. \u00a0And that is huge because I felt like the Xoom was way too heavy for lots of casual use on the go. \u00a0But then you have that clunky OS so&#8230; Anyway, it&#8217;s a good size with good readability. \u00a0For most the screen sensitivity seems to be pretty good. \u00a0Mine was pretty awful. \u00a0I didn&#8217;t realize it was awful until I handled my co-workers tablet. \u00a0He then toyed around with my tablet for a bit and hear is the best quotable about the lack of sensitivity: \u00a0your tablet should be a touchpad, not a presspad! \u00a0But that turned out to be fixable, so moving on.<\/p>\n<p>The biggest drawback about the unit is the screen. \u00a0This is NOT a screen that can be used easily outdoors or in direct bright light. \u00a0The reason is there is a ton of reflection from the screen that makes it hard to read or see icons. \u00a0Also the viewing angles are not so great and you have to play around a bit to see what is the optimal angle to allow for comfortable reading of the screen. \u00a0It&#8217;s all not optimal, but tolerable because of the low price.<\/p>\n<p>It doesn&#8217;t come with any accessories, so it takes a bit to find the right ones to round out the experience of the unit. \u00a0(It comes with a usb cable and a charger with a fairly decent-length cord) \u00a0For overall carrying purchased a\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/B002STX2ZG\" target=\"_blank\">Caselogic VNA210 10.2-Inch Netbook\/iPad Attache (Black)<\/a> from Amazon for about 15 bucks. \u00a0It comfortably holds the data cable, the charger, and the tablet all in separate compartments. \u00a0It has handles and a shoulder strap. \u00a0It looks a little man purse-like, but if you put it on with the tablet in the back it&#8217;s not too bad! \ud83d\ude09 \u00a0For carrying without need of the cables, I purchased a\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/B001Q3MA80\" target=\"_blank\">Case Logic VLS-110 Sleeve for 7-Inch to 10-Inch Netbooks and iPad<\/a>. \u00a0It fits the tablet perfectly BUT has absolutely no zippered compartments for other items. \u00a0Looks good though, and only cost 9 bucks. For a stand my only recommendation at this time is what I have&#8230; a plate stand from Bed Bath &amp; Beyond. \u00a0I looked the entire store for something like that, and then asked if I could buy one. \u00a0You can&#8217;t though. \u00a0As I was going to ask the clerk for info on ordering one he gave it to me and said Go. \u00a0And you don&#8217;t have to tell me twice.<\/p>\n<p>So I have a decent unit for a great price with some decent accessories and a great stand for ease of use. \u00a0But now, it&#8217;s time to root this sucker so I can see why tablets are supposed to be such a great thing. \u00a0Stay tuned for &#8220;Rooting my Woot&#8221;. \ud83d\ude09<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I have had my tablet for about two weeks or so with sufficient time to play around with it. \u00a0So it&#8217;s about time that I finally posted my impressions of this Android tablet.
