RSS… who knew???

Along with trying to fix the issues involved with moving to a new host, I also have been working hard trying to find the best way to incorporate an RSS feed onto my website homepage.  And let me tell you, it ain’t been easy.  Did you know that there are some really janky sites that generate even jankier code for you?  Yeah it’s code that you don’t have to figure out yourself, but it also has there website links, bad formatting, mixtures of javascript and html.  Even the sites that generated php code never gave me code that I even saw function correctly.

Finally I found RSS2Html.  Seemed easy enough.  And for the most part it was.  Formatting was a little tougher.  The php file that generates the feed via a preset template (that you can format and style as you wish) is a little on the rough side.  I use it in an include (inserted into and iframe) on my home page, and if you look at the code it isn’t formatted well.  But the published page on the server looks good… and in both IE and FF.  So even though it took me a long time to get there, I finally have a home page that is beginning to look the way I want.  And mostly, it’s looking like a home page that is no longer embarassing! THAT makes me happiest. :=)
