My Litmus Test for republican Decency

Renee Good, Alex Pretti and Keith Porter

There have been so many daily new horrors inflicted on the American public by this administration that I’ve lost track of my unpublished drafts in my WordPress account. All were started with the best of intentions only to become irrelevant within 24 hours or less. It’s been a fairly pointless exercise in blogging futility.

But we’ve now crossed a line in the sand that can’t be ignored. And I’m not just speaking about the atrocities committed by this administration on its own citizenry. I’m speaking about the complicit silence of the republicans who were once some of our best friends and loved ones. Yes, we had disagreements on policy, but now we are fully in a war over decency and humanity.

ice has murdered 3 Americans (so far) in cold blood. MURDERED. Two of these murders were on video for all the world to see. Undeniably, murder! And right on cue, the administration asked us to believe their official narrative of domestic terrorism, and not to believe our own eyes. Fuck that.

We’re used to republicans in the media trying (in vain) to cast protests in Minneapolis as some nefarious and well-organized Antifa conspiracy. But I don’t give a rat’s ass about republicans in the media. We’re at a point where we MUST confront those republicans around us who are steadfast in their silence about what has been happening in this country.

You know the ones. Instead of voting for the competent female candidate, they voted for the lying felon who said he would bring down prices, end wars, bring the world to its knees with his new tariff toy.

And what do we have now? Prices aren’t lower, wars are raging with more conflict on the horizon, the world economy has been destabilized and could easily tip to the down side, and absolutely no other country in the world trusts us to do what we say: be they are longtime allies or mortal enemies. We are alone in this new world order.

And to make matters worse, he’s now using para-military force against American citizens who are exercising their right to protest. And that force is unchecked, unabated, and unaccountable. Three US citizens have been murdered so far (along with 6 other non-US persons), and more murders will be coming if we continue down this path.

Yet still they, the republicans in our lives, are silent!

So now I will be using a litmus test when I meet up with my republican friends. I will ask them is it okay that the president is allowing the murders of US citizens simply because they are protesting OR protesting while carrying registered firearms. Any answer other than an unequivocable NO will tell me everything I need to know moving forward.

I will no longer trust you, and will no longer count you as a friend. My friends are decent human beings with hearts that feel empathy and compassion. If someone in my life doesn’t adhere to those basic concepts, they don’t deserve my time, my effort, or my love. I generally have a hard time letting go of people in my life, but changing times have necessitated a change in me.

Strong words. Definitely harsh, but also necessary. And if someone doesn’t like being judged for their lack of human decency, so be it. That’s not me. That’s on them.
